The variety of farming products available in the area result in an extensive gastronomic culture. From the kitchen gardens in the river valleys there are peppers, tomatoes, onions, marrows, pumpkins. The plain produces cereals, olives and grapes with which flour, bread and exquisite sweets are made and extra virgin oil with quality certificates, as well as wine – whites, rosés or reds, with Denomination of Origin. As in all rural areas the pig-slaughter season plays an important role in gastronomy. There are also immense herds of cattle and sheep, giving roasts and quality cheeses and the opportunity of having top quality meat. Small game, like rabbits and partridges, are hunted and these are the basis for home-made dishes in restaurants, bars and food establishments in general. A visit to the wine cellars is recommended, oil presses, or shops selling typical products, where, apart from getting to know first hand how these products are made, you can buy them to take home.
